History of your home

Does your house have a story to tell?

Do you know the history of your university area home?
Great!

Is this history written down somewhere?
If it is written down, the rest is easy.

Contact the Archives Project at 470.1006
or e-mail us at archives@universitydistrict.org
to see how the Archives Project can obtain a copy of your home history.

If your home history is not written down, but you are knowledgeable about your home’s history, please call the Archives Project (470.1006), so we can learn together how we may best document this important history.

What do we mean by the history of your home?
Many of the residential structures and properties in the university area date from the early 1900s, some earlier, some later. Obtaining the history of these residential properties enables us to understand how our earlier residents lived in our neighborhoods. Many structures were built before household electrical current became available, before central heating and especially before central air conditioning. And more recently our residents have become "wired" for the information age. Knowing how our homes are modified over the years is part of our history we wish to preserve.
