District Neighborhoods

The Neighborhoods of the University District - a community for everybody. The University District, a city within a city, a town all its own, containing within its boundaries many neighborhoods and commercial nodes, as well as the Columbus campus of The Ohio State University. These neighborhoods include natural features, historic districts, restored Victorian mansions, single family homes, affordable housing and apartments for those wishing to rent. The neighborhoods of the University District encompass about 300 city blocks - from the Glen Echo Ravine on the north to 5th Avenue on the south, from the Olentangy River on the west to the railroad tracks on the east. Its varied housing stock, tree lined streets and sidewalks, in close proximity to the University, downtown and neighboring communities make it an ideal place to live.

Homes and residential buildings which dot the University District’s streetscape reflect the history of the area. You will find many Victorian houses, turn of the century brick homes, gabled frame farmhouses, craftsman and bungalow styles. Largely due to the efforts of area residents, a large portion of the University District is eligible for inclusion on the National Register of Historic Sites. Four neighborhoods are designated as City of Columbus Historic Districts. The oldest house in Franklin County sits east of High Street. This log home was built by early settler David Beers in 1804 and was moved, log by log, to its present site in the early 1900’s.

To live in the Neighborhoods of the University District is to reside comfortably with our community’s historic past, as well as to invest in its future.
