Indianola Elementary School will no longer be used as a Bulk Pick-Up location.
The City of Columbus will provide 16 free bulk trash drop-off locations for Ohio State University area (bounded by Fifth Avenue on the south, Glen Echo Ravine on the north, the ConRail tracks on the east, and the Olentangy River on the west), the most densely populated area in Columbus with close to 50,000 residents. This pickup will take place as leases expire, apartments are vacated and furniture and other large items are thrown out prior to students moving in for OSU's fall quarter. The free drop-off locations will be available August 22 through September 9. Residents can also schedule bulk pickup by calling 311 or 645-3111.
"We will be working hard to keep the alleys in the OSU area clean during Move-out/Move-in, but we need students, landlords and others to do their part by taking their bulk items to the free drop-off locations and not leave them in the alleys," said Mark Kelsey, Director of the Department of Public Service. "Residents can also call 311 to schedule bulk pickup or donate old furniture to charitable organizations that will get it to people most in need who can put it to good use."

Regular scheduled weekly trash pickup in the OSU campus area will be done on Tuesdays during the Move-out/Move-in effort, except for the week of September 5. As Monday, September 5 is Labor Day, regular trash pickup throughout the city will be moved back one day, with pickup in neighborhoods near OSU to be done on Wednesday of that week. City Refuse Collection crews will also conduct a special pickup of regular trash in the campus area on Thursday, September 1, prior to OSU's season opening football game against the University of Akron. In addition, City crews will pickup regular trash in alleys on Thursdays and Fridays during the Move-out/Move-in effort.
Bulk collection reminders include:
The city will collect bulk trash only at 16 drop-off sites
Do not place bulk trash in regular refuse containers
Do not leave bulk trash in alleys
If you can't take your bulk trash to the drop-off sites, contact the city's Call Center at (614) 645-3111 to schedule bulk pick-up. Or go on-line at www.311.columbus.gov
Move-out/Move-in information is also available on the Department of Public Service's Facebook site at www.facebook.com/ColumbusPublicService and Twitter account at http://twitter.com/ColumbusDPS.
Instead of throwing out used furniture in good, clean condition, residents can be green and donate items to the Furniture Bank of Central Ohio at (614) 272-9544. The Furniture Bank of Central Ohio distributes the furniture, free of charge, to Columbus families in need.
