University District abounds in Holiday Activity

ART, MUSIC, SHOPPING, AND MORE NOVEMBER 29–DECEMBER 2

With a convergence of events and shopping, the University District invites the community to the area the weekend of November 29 - December 2 to experience its diversity of arts, culture, and shopping. The various goings-on:

The 4th annual Columbus International Children's Film Festival, to be held at the Wexner Center November 29 - December 2, includes four days of acclaimed films from around the globe for families, plus a cereal and pajama party, a visit from a Muppet performer, and more. That same weekend is Member Appreciation Days featuring a variety of activities and specials for Wexner Center members, including extra discounts in the Wexner Center Store (open until 8 pm Thursday through Saturday), cafe discounts, free gift wrap, and a "Wex 101" session/reception Thursday, November 29, at 6 pm.

The acclaimed, family-friendly exhibition William Wegman: Funney/Strange, featuring more than 200 works by Wegman-including his famous Weimaraner dog photographs-is on view at the Wexner Center through the end of December (with galleries open until 8 pm Thursdays through Saturdays). Admission is free.

The Ohio State University School of Music's Annual Celebration Concert will be held Friday, November 30, at 8 pm in Mershon Auditorium. This concert featuring nearly every performance ensemble in OSU's School of Music typically sells out. Advance tickets available at 292-3535. Free shuttles will run between the South Campus Gateway garage and Mershon Auditorium between 7 and 10 pm.

The Department of Art's Faculty Exhibition runs through November 30 in OSU's Hopkins Hall Gallery on the northeast end of the Oval. Admission is free.

The lively South Campus Gateway is offering a variety of activities that weekend. On Friday and Saturday nights (November 30 and December 1), Gateway will provide holiday musical entertainment in the "Alley" from 7 to 10 pm. Au Moda clothing boutique is holding a Christmas Card Celebration, featuring holiday card-making, photos with Santa, refreshments, and more, to benefit Adventures for Wish Kids, a nonprofit organization serving children diagnosed with terminal illnesses (November 30, 6-9 pm). Wexner Center members can also take advantage of buy-one-get-one-free restaurant discounts at Gateway.

South Campus Gateway will offer free shuttles to and from the Short North Holiday Hop on Saturday, December 1, from 7 to 10 p.m. (See note above about free shuttles to OSU's music concert in Mershon on November 30.)

PARKING: Cheap, convenient parking is available at the South Campus Gateway garage, just off High Street with entrances on East 9th and 11th avenues (rates start at $1 for 3 hours). Free shuttles from the Gateway garage to specific events offered at times noted above. Wexner Center members can take advantage of three free hours of parking there by showing their garage slip and membership card at the Wexner Center Patron Services Desk. Additional parking is available at the Ohio Union Garage ($3 for the first hour), just south of the Wexner Center with entrances on High Street and College Avenue, and Arps Garage (evenings only) just north of 17th Avenue with entrances on High Street and College Avenue.
