L I V E / Neighborhoods / Old North Columbus
The Tuttle Park neighborhood stretches along the western edge of the University District along the Olentangy River north of OSU, from Lane Avenue to Dodridge and parallels Tuttle Park and the Tuttle Park Recreation Center. Once all farm land, the area has served as a Mingo Indian Village, a horse farm, a Civil War camp and a bird sanctuary. Once a seperate town - Old North Columbus - it was established in 1842 between Dodridge and Tompkins along High Street.
The housing reflects this varied history - modest duplexes from pre-World war I, farm houses from the 1850's - 60's, Motorman's cottages from the street car days, Arts and Crafts houses from the 1920's and the lovely restored homes done in the Williamsburg style by local icon, the late Dr. Charles Pavey. Tuttle Park is probably the most diverse of all the University neighborhoods with students, young and retired professionals, families from Russia, Asia and Africa, as well as long term renters.
