Over the years, more than a few well known Americans have resided in the district
In 1942, during his undergraduate studies Roy Lichtenstein lived at 1968 Iuka Avenue. Over 60 years later, students are still renting apartments at that address. Following his service in the Army, Roy Lichtenstein returned to Columbus and lived at 394 15th Avenue and a year later (1950) moved to 1496 Perry Street as a newlywed.
Four decades earlier another prominent painter, George Bellows grew up in Columbus and attended Ohio State.
Humorist writer and cartoonist James Thurber attended OSU from 1913-1917.
In the 50's, Sci-Fi Writer Harlan Ellison got himself thrown out.
One of todays best loved (yet feared) childrens authors, R.L. Stine graduated in 1965.

Astronauts Charles Bassett, Nancy Currie, Richard Linnehan and Ronald Sega all attended Ohio State.
Despite very poor eye sight, Charles Kettering completed his engineering degree and went on to become one of the most influential inventors of the 2oth century. Kettering invented the starter motor, held more than 300 patents founded Delco and now has a town in Ohio named after him.
