Paving the Way

Before many motorists even had concerns about traffic congestion, transportation officials had the foresight to develop the Paving The Way... Program. This program was created in 1990 as a cooperative effort among the Federal Highway Administration, the Ohio Department of Transportation, and the city of Columbus to improve planning and communication of construction projects. This is the nation's first program to address construction management and communication on a regional, rather than project basis. One of the major objectives of the program is to ensure that drivers experience the least possible inconvenience while traveling in and around Columbus.

RideSolutions

Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission's RideSolutions program promotes alternatives to driving alone - vanpools, carpools, transit, and even walking or cycling to work. We maintain a database with nearly 10,000 commuters who are interested in sharing a ride to work. With a commuter's home and work addresses, work hours, and a phone number or email, our computerized matching software is able to generate a list of potential vanpool and carpool partners.
