Conceptual Thoughts / Inspiration
My work is a contemporary interpretation of the vanitas and momento mori genres. Old master painters chose flowers and fruit as status symbols of their day, to portray meaning, wealth, and the passing of time. It is interesting to imagine the American equivalents to these symbols and incorporate them into the genre, especially as so much of our community and cultural meaning are merging from the physical world to the digital realm. Navigating the world has very much involved blending the physical with the digital.
